Whitney and Grant's Engagement SessionWhitney and Grant at Big South ForkWhitney and Grant at Blevins Farm in Big South Fork

Whitney and Grant are such a sweet couple. They booked us for their October wedding a couple of months ago. Since then, we’ve been planning on shooting their engagement session for about a month. Every day we get things scheduled was filled with rain. Each time, we would put it off for another week, again and again. Finally! A day without rain!

They chose to have their engagement session at Blevins Farm in Big South Fork. The location had a special meaning to them as this was where Grant proposed to Whitney. I love hearing stories like that, and when we can meet up somewhere that is meaningful to the couple, I’m all for it!

We had a lot of fun, and I got to live up to my two-wheeled photographer persona (gorgeous motorcycle ride up to Big South Fork). They brought their dog along, who ended up having more interest in the horses at the farm instead of being photographed. Check out the Facebook gallery for a few more photos with their dog (seems to be an engagement session theme lately. :) )

With all the rain we’ve been having recently, it was amazing that we had one day with gorgeous sunshine and warmth (it rained for days after, too)! We couldn’t have asked for a nicer day for their engagement session. They chose Meads Quarry over at Ijam’s Nature Center, which made for a wonderful backdrop. The two of them are a lot of fun and playful. It was a real pleasure to photograph the two of them (and their dogs!).  :)

Jenna & Joe’s Engagement Session

Jenna and Joe's Engagement Session

Jenna & Joe

Jenna & Joe are such a fun and loving couple. They are so friendly, and their love for each other is such a joy to see! We photographed their engagement session at the Two Rivers Pavilion just outside of Louisville, TN.

Under the Willow TreeWe had photographed a wedding reception here a few years ago. Although they don’t hold ceremonies there, the venue is absolutely gorgeous. It is right up against the river, with beautiful willow trees nearby. When Jenna & Joe picked the location for their engagement session, I was excited and so looking forward to shooting there again.

We started out among the nice scenery around the property, taking in a few of the willow trees, benches, and grounds. They are such a fun and easy couple to work with – they really made my job easy!

Trash the DressJenna brought along an extra dress, specifically so we could do a “Trash the Dress” session. With both of them willing to jump in the river, we captured some really fun, romantic, and cool imagery! The image above is one of my favorites, and there are more in the slideshow below.

Between the gorgeous day, beautiful scenery, and being around Jenna & Joe, it just made for a wonderful evening photo shoot. :)

As the sun set, we captured a few more images with the two of them in the river.

Sunset by the riverThe sky just lit up for them! After they dried off a bit (and changed clothes), we went over to a large oak tree to finish up our session. As we were walking towards the tree, I saw the pier with the sun making its way towards the horizon. It was just one of those moments when everything was coming together.

I sent them down quickly, with just a few instructions (our normal: pay attention to each other, talk, kiss, touch foreheads…) and quickly photographed them as the sun set. I just love these types of romantic imagery! You can click on any of the above images to see larger versions.

It was a pleasure to meet and photograph these two! I can’t wait to photograph their wedding next month! Here are a few more images from their engagement session:

Ashley & Ben – Engagement

Ashley and Ben

Ashley & Ben

Ashley and Ben chose one of our favorite places for their engagement session. The grist mill at Norris Dam State Park has some wonderful imagery. Along with the rustic look of the threshing barn, the stream passing by both buildings, and the gorgeous autumn colors, we had an incredible background!

Ashley and Ben were a lot of fun to work with. We’ve known Ashley for years through our daughters, but I hadn’t met Ben until they came to book our services. Seeing the two of them together, you can tell they are truly in love.

The autumn colors that day were incredible. They couldn’t have picked a better day for their engagement session. Here are a few more images from their session: Read More

Sarah Beth & Andrew – Engagement

Sarah Beth & Andrew

We had a lot of fun with Sarah Beth and Andrew. Andrew is a pilot, so they wanted to incorporate that into their engagement session. We couldn’t have asked for a better sunset that night!

The funny part for me was how they booked us. Sarah Beth got the referral from the bridal shop where she works. When she told Andrew and his parents who she was going to meet with, they told her they knew us! Andrew was in the same class as our daughter, Jennifer. Andrew’s sister was in our daughter Jordan’s class. We’ve known his parents since our daughters were in elementary school, brownies, girl scouts, high school band… :)

We’re excited to be a part of their wedding day, although it is interesting (and scary) to us that classmates of our daughters are getting married!

We had a beautiful summer day for Angela & Shane’s engagement session. The threshing barn was a beautiful backdrop, and the two of them were a lot of fun to work with! We also went across the road to the river, which had fog rolling across the water. That made for some really mystical imagery!

Parker & Patrick

Parker & Patrick
Parker & Patrick

I’ve known Parker since she was ten years old. She is our youngest daughter’s best friend. We’ve watched her grow up, and participate with the marching band with our daughter, Jennifer. She even worked for me as an image editor and lighting assistant until she joined the air force (it’s kind of hard for her to be our assistant while stationed in Japan). :)

I was excited to hear that she was engaged. She met Patrick while in stationed in Japan. They both had the chance to come to Tennessee this Christmas on leave. Parker said she just had to have us photograph her engagement session (and wedding, and maternity when they have kids…..). I was truly honored that she called on us.

This past Monday, we met them in Knoxville’s Old City. We had a lot of fun, taking in the architecture of the area. We were also very lucky with the weather! It was a little chilly out, but the sun was out with very few clouds in the sky (this has been the month for rain, so it was nice to see some sun).

One thing I didn’t know before the session was that Patrick had not officially proposed. Unbeknownst to Parker, Patrick already had the ring. He was planning on proposing on New Year’s Eve. So, during the engagement session, took a few photographs of the ring, along with Patrick holding the ring. From what I understand she had no idea! I believe he proposed to her at Disneyland last night.I Leigh and I are really happy for the two of them! :)

Here are a few more images from their engagement session:

Kristen and Nick are an adorable couple! I really enjoyed meeting them. We had a lot of fun at Whitestone Country Inn during their engagment session. We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and the two of them were playful, fun, and showed a lot of love for eachother.

I am so looking forward to their wedding next spring. I know they are going to be a joy to work with!
