Our daughter, Jennifer, just left for her second tour in Iraq. Before she deployed, she stopped by so we could do a quick photo session in one of her favorite outfits.

We are really proud of her and hope she has a safe tour. Her army reserve unit will be in Iraq for the next year.

Vivian & Larry

MusiciansLarry and Vivian Portrait SessionVivian and Larry downtown

Vivian contacted us to do a couples portrait session. They really wanted to do something outdoors, but with how cold the weather has been this winter, we decided to do a studio session with the possibility of heading outdoors for some additional photographs. Luckily, the weather cooperated and wasn’t too cold, especially for February!

The first time I met them was when they showed up for their session. Both are extremely friendly people, and so into each other. I love it when we have such playful people to photograph! Larry plays guitar, so he brought a couple of his for the session. Being a musician, myself, I really admire other musicians. Larry sat and played for a bit, which gave me a good chance to photograph him (using a spotlight effect) and listen to some wonderful music.

After the studio session, we headed downtown and took advantage of the wonderful ambiance of Main Street. From the train station, the antique shop, courtyard and other scenery, everywhere you turn is something new to add to their artistic imagery.

It was a fun session, and I enjoyed getting to know them. Check out more images from their session on our Facebook page.

Rachele – Bridal Portraits

Rachele was the winner of our Whitestone Country Inn bridal fair prize. We actually photographed this session a couple of weeks ago. Since we didn’t want her husband-to-be to see the images ahead of time, we didn’t post them until their wedding day (which was this weekend)!

It is nice to be able to relax away from the wedding day and have a little extra time to photograph around the property. With as hot as this summer has been, the day we shot her session was very pleasant. The sun made everything glow, and Rachele looked absolutely fabulous!

Jenna & Joe’s Wedding

Jenna & Joe's First MeetingJenna & Joe's Wedding CeremonyThe Kiss

This was one wedding Leigh and I were looking forward to for a while. We had fun with Jenna & Joe during their engagement session, and knew they were going to have a fun wedding!

The Pavilion made for a nice location for their wedding day. The weather was absolutely gorgeous as well! With how strange and quickly changing the weather has been this summer, it was nice to have such a beautiful day for their wedding.

They met before the ceremony. We arranged for them to meet at the bridge crossing over the small stream area. We placed Joe on one side, then had Jenna come up to meet him. As usual, we made him wait a tiny bit, knowing she was right there behind him. We left them alone for a few minutes afterwards. :)

The ceremony was very nice. They wrote their own vows. You could easily see how much in love they are with each other throughout the ceremony.

It is couples like Jenna and Joe that affirm to us that we are in the right profession. Being around so much love for one another just means the world to us. They were fun, playful, loving, and full of smiles the entire day!

Jenna & Joe’s Engagement Session

Posted on August 6th, 2010 by Chris Hoopes under Chris, Couples, Engagements, Trash the Dress, Two Rivers Pavillion.

Jenna and Joe's Engagement Session

Jenna & Joe

Jenna & Joe are such a fun and loving couple. They are so friendly, and their love for each other is such a joy to see! We photographed their engagement session at the Two Rivers Pavilion just outside of Louisville, TN.

Under the Willow TreeWe had photographed a wedding reception here a few years ago. Although they don’t hold ceremonies there, the venue is absolutely gorgeous. It is right up against the river, with beautiful willow trees nearby. When Jenna & Joe picked the location for their engagement session, I was excited and so looking forward to shooting there again.

We started out among the nice scenery around the property, taking in a few of the willow trees, benches, and grounds. They are such a fun and easy couple to work with – they really made my job easy!

Trash the DressJenna brought along an extra dress, specifically so we could do a “Trash the Dress” session. With both of them willing to jump in the river, we captured some really fun, romantic, and cool imagery! The image above is one of my favorites, and there are more in the slideshow below.

Between the gorgeous day, beautiful scenery, and being around Jenna & Joe, it just made for a wonderful evening photo shoot. :)

As the sun set, we captured a few more images with the two of them in the river.

Sunset by the riverThe sky just lit up for them! After they dried off a bit (and changed clothes), we went over to a large oak tree to finish up our session. As we were walking towards the tree, I saw the pier with the sun making its way towards the horizon. It was just one of those moments when everything was coming together.

I sent them down quickly, with just a few instructions (our normal: pay attention to each other, talk, kiss, touch foreheads…) and quickly photographed them as the sun set. I just love these types of romantic imagery! You can click on any of the above images to see larger versions.

It was a pleasure to meet and photograph these two! I can’t wait to photograph their wedding next month! Here are a few more images from their engagement session:

Nicolette and Roger were a very fun couple! It was a gorgeous day, and Whitestone Country Inn made for a wonderful backdrop for their wedding day. The outdoor ceremony, followed by a carriage ride, and a very fun reception, plus a very playful couple, made this a very memorable day!

Taylor’s Senior Portrait Session

Posted on May 12th, 2010 by Chris Hoopes under Chris, Norris Dam - Grist Mill, Portraits, Seniors.

Talor's Senior Portrait Session

Taylor

We had a lot of fun with Talyor’s senior portrait session. He is studying to be a mechanic and wanted to include his love of vehicles in some of the imagery.

Senior portrait sessions include three themes, so we did a studio session, along with going to the garage to take photos of him there, along with his family’s camero. We finished up at the Norris Dam grist mill for some relaxed portraits.

I shot some of the gears laid out on the workbench and used them for backdrops (like the image above).

Sarah Beth & Andrew’s Wedding

Posted on February 12th, 2010 by Chris Hoopes under Chris, Closing Shots, Couples, Farragut TN, Fox Den Country Club, Knoxville TN, Leigh, Weddings.

Sarah Beth and Andrew and Willow Tree

Sarah & Andrew - January 30, 2010

Snowy winter days are rare here in East Tennessee. They are also unpredictable. January can be in the 60s, or absolutely freezing. For Sarah and Andrew’s wedding day, we were blessed with an absolutely beautiful, freezing, snowy winter day.

We has a lot of fun with their engagement session. We were hoping to play outdoors a little throughout the wedding day as well. The snow storm the night before did change our plans a little, but we still had a gorgeous day, and their wedding was absolutely beautiful!

One of the things we love to do, when couples are seeing each other before the ceremony, is make it special. We wanted this to be a memorable moment from their wedding day. So, we took advantage of the snowy day and took them (briefly) outdoors for their first moment together. The lightly falling snow, gorgeous bride, and snow-covered background made for a wonderful moment for the two of them!

The candle-lit ceremony was absolutely wonderful. Simple. Elegant. Everything just fit so well with the two of them.

Andrew is a pilot. He was flying off for their honeymoon together. It was fitting that their exit was through paper airplanes! Envelopes with folding directions were provided for all of the guests.

Before they left, we went around the country club and photographed a few more shots of them out in the snow. One of my favorites is the image at the top of this post.
